    The position of a fixed-term class teacher, at the European School of Helsinki, starting from 18 August, 2026 to 31 July 2027, is open for applications.

    The teacher will be responsible for teaching and educational duties in an English-language class following the European Schools curriculum for P1 and P2 level students (ages 6 and 7) in the primary school. The role also includes communication with parents. Teaching is conducted in a mixed year group classroom setting.

    This position requires close collaboration with colleagues from different language sections (Finnish and French) as part of a dynamic, international team.

    Teacher qualifications and language proficiency requirements are defined by the Government Decree on the European School of Helsinki 15/2008 (see details on the school's website).

    The selected candidate must provide an extract from the criminal record as required by the Criminal Records Act (770/1993, section 6, paragraph 2) and the Act on Background Checks for Persons Working with Children (504/2002).

      Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

      - Previous experience as a Primary school teacher
      - Experience in school-home collaboration
      - Strong student interaction and teamwork skills
      - Independent and proactive work approach
      - Innovative and pedagogical development mindset
      - Understanding of multicultural environments and experience in international work communities
      - Experience in European Schools curriculum
      - Strong collaboration skills and diverse language proficiency are considered assets, as the role involves working with students from three language sections
      - Knowledge of special needs education and pedagogical support.

      Language Requirements:
      - English: Native-level proficiency
      - Finnish, French or other language skills are considered an asset.

      Experience in mixed-age and combined classroom teaching and co-teaching is also considered a plus.

      Employment Terms:
      The position will be filled with a five-month probation period.

    • European School of Helsinki is a state school which started its operation in autumn 2008. There are three language sections in the school: English, French and Finnish.
