This task is related to the government’s goal of hiring 500 young people for new fixed-term positions during 2026. The positions are intended for people aged 18–25 who are applying for their first job with the state.

We are looking for a trainee for quantitative genetics tasks at the Natural Resources Institute Finland’s Jokioinen office. This is a fixed-term position between 14.9-13.12.2026.

As a trainee in the Genomics and Breeding Research Group at the Natural Resources Institute Finland you will carry out supervised analyses in the field of quantitative genetics. Analyses are connected to the further development of a validation method (Mendelian sampling validation test) for validating the unbiasedness of genomic prediction models for national genetic evaluation of dairy cattle populations. You will join an internationally highly recognized research group in developing genomic prediction methodologies and software. The work is of international interest and is carried out in collaboration with researchers from different countries.

We offer the trainee comprehensive orientation and guidance throughout the duration of the employment relationship.

The applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and seeking their first state job, as this position is part of the government’s goal to hire 500 young people for new fixed-term positions in 2026.

We expect the applicant to have:
• interest in research work
• excellent oral and written skills in English
• an active approach to work and the courage to take the initiative
• studies in applied mathematics, statistics, animal breeding or a related field

We consider the following to be an advantage:
• Master of Science studies that are close to a finish
• experience in analyses of large data sets and skills in programming
• experience in Linux and R
• good oral and written skills in Finnish
