Researcher / Senior scientist (spectral geology)
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for a researcher / senior scientist (spectral geology) for the Information Solutions unit. Your office is in Espoo, Kuopio, Rovaniemi or Kokkola and you can also work remotely flexibly within Finland.
You will be responsible for developing methods for interpreting mineralogical properties of hyperspectral drill core scanning and remote sensing data. You work as an expert and trainer in spectral geology and/or project manager in significant national and international networks and projects. The task includes participating in the preparation of funding applications or, depending on your skills and experience, coordinating the submission of funding applications.
You will be working in the information solutions unit of approximately 56 professionals, who work with geodata management, application development and mineral prospectivity mapping related issues. The Geoinformatics group, in which you will be placed, consists of about 7 members.

Education, experience and skills expected of an applicant
• A PhD degree in an applicable discipline in natural or technical sciences
• Experience in mineralogy, hyperspectral data processing, mineral spectroscopy, and mineral exploration
• Competence in geosciences (geology, geophysics, or geochemistry)
• Competence in geographical information system (GIS), remote sensing and spatial data analysis
• Excellent English language proficiency, both oral and written
Education, experience, and skills that are appreciated
• Programming skills (Python, R)
• Willingness to do field work and travel, especially during the field season
• Interest in learning Finnish language
