We are hiring a Senior researcher for projects exploring relevant policies and their implementation empirically.
As a Senior researcher, you will examine different forms of transformative governance and regulation. Work will include analyzing the implementation of policies supporting sustainability transformation at various levels of society, from EU policies to local communities. Thematically, you will focus on a variety of topics, such as governance, regulation, and knowledge brokering of biodiversity, circular economy, and aquaculture. You will conduct research within an interdisciplinary research community and collaborate with decision-makers and other stakeholders at the Finnish Environment Institute, Syke, in Finland, and at the EU level. You will also have an opportunity to participate in coordinating international networks on sustainability transformation. Through your publications, you will contribute to both scientific and societal discussions.
The position will be based in the Societal change unit, located at Sykes Helsinki, Joensuu or Jyväskylä office - you can express your wish concerning the office location. At the Finnish Environment Institute, Syke, we work in an open space office and activity-based environment, but flexible remote working is our working standard today.

We expect you to have strong methodological and conceptual expertise in the governance of sustainability transformation, policy research, or legal studies. A doctoral degree in environmental policy, law, sustainability science, or a related field will provide the best foundation for success in the role of senior researcher. We expect you to demonstrate in your application how your research approach and field of study support and complement the sustainability transformation research conducted at Syke.
In this position, you will need excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with researchers, planners, and other stakeholders.
Proficiency in qualitative research methods will be considered an asset. Broad experience in planning and leading interdisciplinary projects will also be considered an advantage.
You need excellent English skills for the task.
