The Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke) offers a 3-year postdoctoral position on the evaluation and development of ESG practices of companies through environmental and natural resource policies and their interlinkages with financial markets.
This postdoc position is part of Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes in Finland. The programme is funded from the Finnish government's multi-annual research and development (R&D) funding plan. The programme recruits 85 new postdoctoral researchers to 12 Finnish government research institutes between 2025 and 2028. The aim of the Programme is to strengthen RDI competence in areas important to society and business. Postdoctoral researcher will conduct goal-oriented high-level research at the interface between the academic community, industry, and administration. The Programme supports postdoctoral researcher’s networking and mobility between sectors.
The selected person will also take part in Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme, which coordinates, develops, and monitors the qualification of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at the Natural Resources Institute Finland.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team of environmental and resource economists. The successful applicant should contribute to innovative research in the field of finance (theory) from the perspective of environmental and natural resource policy. The candidate is expected to develop a research agenda that addresses the integration of natural resource policies and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. The research should focus on how ESG practices influence the supply of ecosystem services and how they can be enhanced through public sector actions. One of the aims should be the identification of potential conflicts between corporate ESG goals and natural resource policies, proposing viable solutions. The primary focus is on the sector of natural resources, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), but also the value networks around large companies. Key areas of interest may include e.g. the integration of ecological and carbon compensations within the ESG framework and the interaction between financiers’ expectations and relevant policy proposals. The analysis should also cover innovative solutions and best practices through case studies, including those involving collaboration with enterprises. Case studies and comparisons in forestry, the food sector, and fisheries would be particularly valuable.
