Research Professor / Associate Research Professor in Geochemistry (Isotope geochemistry)
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for a Research Professor or Associate Research Professor in Geochemistry with focus on isotope geochemistry and isotope geology. You will work in the Circular Economy Solutions unit and collaborate with GTK's researchers and external partners. Your office will be located in Espoo, and you can also work remotely flexibly in Finland.
You will develop state-of-the-art research and innovations as well as customer-oriented applications taking advantage of recent and future investments in cutting edge versatile analytical techniques. You are expected to successfully bid for competitive research funding sources, initiate, prepare, and lead national and international science and innovation (S&I) projects, and develop GTK’s strategic competencies in the field.
The position will involve working with a wide range of natural and anthropogenic materials, but mainly minerals and water. The most important analytical instruments regarding the position are the MC-ICP-MS and SF-SC-ICPMS hosted at GTK’s Research Laboratory in Espoo. During the next three years the laboratory will also acquire a Time of Flight ICP-MS, a femtosecond laser, and a new sector field ICP-MS. Additionally, a formal collaboration with Helsinki University provides access to a newly acquired TIMS.

We expect
• As a qualification requirement, you must hold a doctoral degree in geology or geochemistry or in some other
relevant scientific discipline and strong knowledge of the field.
• You have extensive relevant multi-disciplinary post-doctoral level experience, depending on the level of
professor position sought.
• You have already conducted excellent academic research in your field, which is clearly reflected in
outstanding publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals and/or books.
• You are a recognized international expert in isotopic systems and analytical methods, with demonstrated
ability to establish new analytical protocols.
• You have research experience in the fields of petrology, mineral raw materials, and/or metallogeny.
• You are able to identify and solve new, societally relevant geoscientific research questions and develop your
own research profile.
• You have experience in scientific leadership.
• You have a solid track record of receiving competitive external project/research funding.
• You must be highly motivated, have well-established networks with international research groups, and be an
inspiring mentor.
• Excellent communication skills in English as well as excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
