Intern (Applied Geophysics), 2 positions
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for two interns (Applied Geophysics) for the Geophysical Solutions Unit. Your office will be in Espoo, Finland, with the flexibility of partial remote work within Finland. You will work on projects that integrate numerical computing, scientific machine learning (SciML), and real-world geophysical data. Depending on your expertise and interests, you can work on developing physics-based deep neural networks for solving geophysical forward and inverse problems, and with geophysical partial differential equations (PDEs). The dataset you use includes magnetotelluric (MT) and gravity data. The position may also include field work.
You will be working in the Geophysical Solutions unit of approximately 40 professionals, who work with diverse methods in computational and applied geophysics and environmental related issues. The Environmental geophysics group consists of some 10 members.
GTK’s summer intern positions are targeted for graduate students that have not yet graduated.

Education, experience and skills expected of the applicant
• Bachelor or master students in Geoscience, data science, computer science, mathematics or related field.
• Experience in at least one programming language: Python, Julia, C++, Fortran
• Familiar with some machine learning framework like Flux, TensorFlow, Pytorch
• Fluent written and oral skills in English
Education, experience and skills that are appreciated
• Experience with Julia programming
• Experience with GPU computing
• Readiness for field work
