Experts from a broad range of different fields work in Finland’s six Regional State Administrative Agencies for the people and regions. The Regional State Administrative Agency’s duties as a licensing and enforcement authority include:

Ensuring the availability and quality of basic services

We enforce the implementation of services in municipalities in accordance with the law. Our enforcement concerns education; youth, sports, and library services; and social welfare and health care and veterinary medical care services. Our duties also include the granting of licenses to private social welfare and health care providers, the enforcement of the rules concerning them, and the enforcement of accessibility.

Realisation of basic rights and legal protection

We promote the realisation of citizens’ legal protection by guiding and engaging in active cooperation with service providers. We also process complaints, claims for rectification and appeals.

Improving the health and safety of residential, working and living environments

We promote the health and safety of residential, working and living environments in many different ways. We participate in the assessment and prevention of environmental health hazards, enforce compliance with occupational safety and health legislation, and grant licenses referred to in the Environmental Protection Act and the Water Act.

Diverse backgrounds, various tasks

There are about 1300 of us in all parts of Finland. Most of us have a university degree in such areas as administrative sciences, social sciences, law or medicine. Among us, there are also experts in education, health care and commerce.

Our job titles include Planning Officer, Senior Medical Officer, OSH Consultant, Senior Adviser, Environmental Affairs, and Legal Counsel. Administrative Officers and Senior Officers work in a number of different divisions of Regional State Administrative Agencies. For example, you can hold the post of a Senior Officer in Social Services, Educational Affairs, Health Care Services, Rescue Services, or Occupational Safety and Health.
