Ministry of the Interior

The goal of the Ministry of the Interior is for Finland to be the safest country in the world now and in future. '

We are striving to achieve this goal by maintaining people's safety and security, building a competitive society and ensuring equal treatment of people. Our Ministry employs around 240 people, including experts in the fields of police, border management, rescue services and migration. The Ministry has three key duties. Firstly, we draft legislation concerning the police, rescue services, emergency response centre operations, border control, maritime search and rescue and migration.

Secondly, we manage the performance of the agencies and institutions in our branch of government, and finally, deal with international and EU affairs that fall within our mandate. As the ministry for internal security, we also have tasks related to national security, preparedness planning and preparedness for various incidents and emergencies.

We want to act in line with our values in an open, straightforward, fair and reliable manner and to be strong together.
