We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher for a three-year position at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, focusing on atmosphere-ecosystem interactions in Arctic regions.

The aim of the research is to generate new knowledge on the magnitude of carbon sinks in Arctic ecosystems and their responses to climate change and vegetation shifts, particularly in the context of shrubification. The research will integrate new and existing greenhouse gas measurements with microbial, vegetation, nutrient, and microclimate data. The work will focus on shrub ecosystems in Kilpisjärvi, northern Finland, where several field campaigns will be conducted. In addition, measurements from across the Arctic region will be synthesized.

You will actively contribute to project implementation by collecting and analyzing data, publishing scientific articles, and supervising research assistants.

The position is based in the Greenhouse Gases Research Group within the Climate System Research Unit. Learn more about Climate System Research at the Finnish Meteorological Institute: https://www.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/ilmastojarjestelmatutkimus

    • A demonstrated track record of international peer-reviewed publications
    • Experience in developing data processing and analysis workflows, and commitment to open and reproducible science
