The position of deputy director is available for the period of 1.10.2024-31.8.2029 at the European School of Helsinki
The Deputy Director will be mainly responsible for leading and coordinating processes and tasks related to learning support, well-being, and student welfare, as well as providing guidance on academic studies in the Nursery and Primary cycles focusing on the transition from Primary to Secondary cycle. The role includes pedagogical development of the school's operational culture together with the management team and teachers. The Deputy Director is part of the timetabling team, participates in tasks related to preparing for and organizing the European Baccalaureate (special arrangements). Additionally, the Deputy Director is a member of the school’s management team and may have other administrative duties as agreed or requested by the Director (e.g. teacher substitutions). The position might include a maximum teaching obligation of 8 hours per week.

The required qualifications for the Deputy Director position include a Masters degree, teaching qualifications in accordance with the Government Decree on European Schooling Helsinki (15/2008), sufficient work experience as a teacher, and adequate knowledge of educational administration and school management, sufficient experience in leadership in education relevant to the position. Excellent command of written and spoken Finnish and adequate communication skills in the languages of the other language sections of the European School are required.

We require good social, communication, collaboration and organisational skills. In addition, we expect the applicant to have good knowledge of Primus, Kurre and other digital administrative programs. We value flexibility, the ability to innovate and lead change, diverse language skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural professional community. Teaching experience with primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary pupils is considered as an asset.
