Vanha Vaasa hospital, located in Vaasa, is a nationally recognized forensic psychiatric hospital with 155 beds. It provides specialized care, expert services, and forensic psychiatric evaluations. The hospital primarily treats individuals who have been found legally non-responsible for their actions due the mental illness and have not been sentenced to punishment. Additionally, it conducts court-ordered psychiatric evaluations. Furthermore, the hospital also treats other patients referred by welfare areas authorities whose care is particularly dangerous or challenging. Treatment services are provided in collaboration with other psychiatric units and mental health organizations as part of the healthcare service system.
The hospital’s responsibilities also include the development of forensic psychiatric research, treatment, rehabilitation, and expertise, as well as providing basic, advanced, and continuing education in the field of forensic psychiatric. The hospital serves as a teaching hospital and we have about 300 posts. We engage in extensive and multidisciplinary cooperation with various stakeholders.
